What is Mealthy?
The Mealthy MultiPot is a programmable slow and pressure cooker similar to the Instant Pot® and Mealthy claims to be the number 2 selling electric multipot after the very popular and most recognizable brand. Honestly, I do not need another multicooker but if I did, the Mealthy would be a good choice as it comes with an extra gasket and silicone mitts. It does everything that I want and need, including making yogurt.
Introducing the Mealthy CrispLid
In just a few weeks, the Mealthy CrispLid will be released to the public in the U.S. I was lucky enough to get one to test and review (yes, they sent it to me for free).
The Mealthy CrispLid works with any 6 or 8-quart electric multicooker or pressure cooker with a stainless steel insert and is a tool that turns the cooker into an air fryer. The lid fits the pot well and is easy to use. Mealthy has thought of most everything; included in the box with the CrispLid is a tall trivet, the basket for food, tongs with which to lift out the basket and a silicone trivet on which to place the very hot lid when you lift it off the pot. Just to let you know, when you lift the handle the heat source disengages. Also, please note that your electric cooker must be unplugged when using this device. You plug in the CrispLid only.
I must admit that I am new to air frying but I am familiar with what the fryer does. I figured that I didn’t need another appliance and could live without it. And likely I can. However, once it was in my hands, I needed to give it a test run.
How I Used the Mealthy CrispLid
The first test was air fried potatoes and sweet potatoes which were crispy and yum. I followed up with half a cooked artichoke and asparagus. They both turned out great.
Next, I made marinated crispy tofu. I marinated the tofu in tamari, rice vinegar, and sriracha barbecue sauce, although my usual is tamari, vinegar, ginger, and garlic. As you can see, there is NO OIL. I put it in the basket which was perched on the trivet. I cooked it at 400 degrees for 7 minutes on one side and then I carefully removed the lid and set it down on the trivet and turned the tofu. I cooked the tofu for 5 minutes on the second side. It was oh so tasty!
Finally, after cooking the tofu, I added onion slices and zucchini strips and cooked those at 425 degrees for a total of 8 minutes. I loved how the zucchini turned out. The texture was not mushy at all and the skin kind of puffed out. The onions, as onions will do, became sweeter.
My Thoughts on the CrispLid
I can see myself using this handy lid to crisp things up after they are pressure cooked or just to get things crispy for a change of pace. I haven’t yet had the chance to test out more food but want to see how it does with desserts, and I can imagine winter squash slices being incredibly sweet.
The one downside of this lid is the size of the basket. You cannot make a lot of food at once at one time. Another reviewer was complaining because they couldn’t get enough chicken wings in it. You certainly won’t have to be concerned about that, but you might want more crispy tofu. I made 12 ounces at once and it will last me at least a few days. I hope to be able to check out tempeh and other foods very soon.
The Mealthy CrispLid comes with an easy to read and use instruction book and a little recipe book which seriously lacks plant-based recipes that would be of interest to my readers. They plan to have it available for Canada next and then Europe. It will retail for around $50.
It is the smartest appliance I have seen in a very long time and I think it was very, very smart of Mealthy. It is definitely a game changer for those wanting to experiment with air frying without the hassle of another large appliance. Congratulations to Mealthy!
The Mealthy CrispLid will be released on June 24, 2019 and is available for preorder here.

I am interested I. Getting a crispy lid and am looking for the giveaway section. I have cooking under pressure and am obsessed with my instant pot I use it all the time.
I started a plant based lifestyle November of 2018 due to some cholesterol issues.
I truly miss crispy onion rings. I have learned to make some by baking but would love to crisp a few wit a crispy lid.
I also have been experimenting with different veggie burgers some with sweet potatoes and some with beans. My last recipe wanted me to fry them for crispness but I baked them and they were mushy would love to try them in a crispy lid.
I am sticking wi th my plant based lifestyle also SOS free so a crispy lid might just do it for me.
I love experimenting with my veggies and have joined a CSA for organic veggies. I am like a kid in a candy store.

I would really like to have the mealthy crisplid to use on my instant pot. I am interested in air frying, but don’t want to buy an air fryer right now. I have limited space in my kitchen. I want to make French fries, especially sweet potato fries with this lid. Yum!!!!

Thanks Jill!
Have been considering a purchase. Would really like to crisp-up my tofu, and you’ve confirmed this with the Mealthy.
Take good care,

And it does an amazing job with tempeh, too. My husband, who generally does not like tempeh, will now eat it when I cut it into strips and air fry it. Haven’t yet tried it in cubes but I bet that works, too.
I like to steam it in water (or broth) with a touch of Bragg liquid aminos for 2 minutes low pressure in the Instant Pot.
I hope that you find that the lid works well for you.

Thanks, Jill. I appreciate the info. In addition, I read this article, which I found interesting and thought you might find this interesting too.

Thank you for the link to the article. Interesting. Obviously the Mealthy CrispLid didn’t make it on the list.

I have used this for a few days and I have what seems to be a sunburn on my face. I have not been outside. It may be from something else, but I am wondering if it could be from peeking at my food in the CrispLid??
Jill Nussinow says
That is a good question. Perhaps you want to get a hold of the Mealthy people and ask if that is possible. It sounds plausible to me.

I have a 5 qt instant pot. Will I be able to use mealthy air fryer in it ?
Thanks
Swati

I am not sure if the 5 quart has the same diameter as the 6 quart. If it does, then it will work. I have a feeling (but no fact) that the 5 quart might be smaller.
